How to choose your Portugal circuit?

Duration shapes the scope. In 1 to 7 days, we recommend focusing on a coherent pair: Lisbon and Sintra, Porto and the Douro Valley, or the Algarve between Faro and Sagres. Beyond 8 days, it becomes realistic to chain together the North (Porto, Guimarães, Braga), the Centre (Coimbra, Óbidos, Serra da Estrela) and Lisbon, by renting a car for the rural stages. Distances remain short—count 3 hours driving between Porto and Lisbon—but the villages of Alentejo deserve a night's stay rather than a fleeting visit.

Different circuit types

Our travelers break down roughly into three profiles. Lovers of cities and urban culture favor Lisbon, Porto and Coimbra, with museums, historic neighborhoods and contemporary scenes. Those curious about gastronomy and art of living venture onto the vinho verde routes, the Douro cellars and the fish markets of Sesimbra or Olhão. Finally, circuits focused on culture and civilizations follow the Manueline thread from Belém to the monasteries of Batalha, Alcobaça and Tomar.

What is the best season?

Portugal is best visited from April to October, with two particularly pleasant windows: May-June and September. Temperatures range between 20 and 27°C, days are long and sites less crowded than in July-August, when the Algarve and Lisbon can exceed 35°C. Harvests in the Douro, from mid-September to mid-October, are a peak period for wine lovers. Winter remains mild in the south (15 to 17°C during the day) but more humid in the north, with hushed atmospheres in Porto and the Minho.
